HUNTINGTON BURIAL AUTHORITY

Rules governing New Lane Cemetery

 1. All applications must be made on the official forms provided together with a signed copy of these rules
2. Interments shall take place Mondays to Fridays 10am – 4pm.  Requests for interments outside these
times will be considered if possible.
3. All fees and charges due to the Authority shall be paid to the Clerk at the time that the application is made and before any work is put in hand.  The Disposal Certificate (green form) must be produced before the burial takes place.
4. The fees charged are for the maintenance of the Cemetery and does not confer ownership of the land which remains the property of the Burial Authority.
5. Burial plots shall be sited in rows at a distance of 5 foot between burial plot centres.  The burial plots shall be lettered and numbered in even numbers on the right of the roadway ie: 2,4,6  plot A.  On the left of the roadway they shall be numbered 1,3, 5 plot B.  All plots will be lettered as progress into the cemetery is made.
5b. Full sized graves will not be available solely for the purpose of interment of Cremated remains.
6. Any application for the interment of a non parishioner for more than 2 years at the time of death will incur non-residents charges.
6b. The above does not apply to any individual who has moved for circumstances beyond their control. In these circumstances, the burial authority will make a decision based on individual circumstances..
7. Graves shall only be dug by grave diggers approved by the Burial Authority.
8. A headstone of a pattern and material approved by the Authority maybe erected measuring no more than 3 feet high 2ft 6in wide and up to 4 inches thick.  Plinth measurements are 3ft long 2 inches thick and 15 inches wide (maximum).
9. Cremated remains plaques should be a maximum of 18 inches square on a  20 X 20 base.  Upright headstones should be no more than 2ft high including plinth and 20 inches wide – pattern and materials to be approved – inscribed vases permitted but must be situated on a concrete base at the head end of the plot.  No other situation would be considered.  All wording on inscriptions are to be approved by the Authority before erection.
10. Flower vases are permitted but only unbreakable ones –No glass or pottery receptacles or solar lights and only ones that can be sited within the plinth.  No containers to be placed on the turfed area.  No other form of memorial, palisading, kerbing, chippings or lights are permitted and if found will be removed by a member of the Burial Authority.
11. Christmas decorations are permitted from lst December each year but MUST be removed by 31st January or they will be collected and destroyed after that date.
12. A register of all burials shall be kept by the Burial Clerk and shall be made available for inspection at a convenient time for a fee of £12.00
13. All current prices for graves, interments, headstones, plaques etc are available on the website or from the Clerk .
14.These rules are amended and approved by Huntington Burial Authority committee on 10th October Two Thousand and Nineteen and supersede any other Burial Authority Rules and Regulations.
15. The Burial Authority are not responsible for any damage which may be caused to headstones, plaques, inscriptions, trees, shrubs, or seats subject to the provisions of the Local Authorities Cemeteries Order 1977.        https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1977/204/contents/made
